Ep 43: One of These Things Is Not Like the Other (GH)

In this Greenhouse discussion, Brian Fisher and Kyle Moody continue the conversation from Episode 42 by wrestling with two central questions: what does it mean to live in the Kingdom of God, and why does deep discipleship require a serious commitment of time? The conversation explores why many Christians have inherited a reduced view of evangelism, where sharing the Gospel becomes a script or obligation rather than the natural overflow of love for Jesus. Brian and Kyle discuss Kingdom work in ordinary life, the difference between proclamation and initiation into the Kingdom, and why the best evangelists may be better listeners than talkers. They also address one of the most common objections to Greenhouses: โ€œI donโ€™t have the time.โ€ If discipleship is the journey of becoming more like Jesus, then time is not optional. It reveals desire.

Dallas Willard suggested that, if the modern church made genuine disciples, evangelism would mostly take care of itself. Instead, evangelical churches adopt various training programs, continually expressing frustration with their congregations’ lack of participation. Perhaps we’re missing the bigger picture, both in our modern definition of “evangelism” and the deeper reasons why it may not be happening the way some think it should.

Kyle and Brian head back into the Greenhouse to explore why these communities differ from other Christian communities and how making genuine disciples in Kingdom-centric communities shapes our view of reality and the mission of the church, including evangelism.

This episode continues the discussion from Ep 42.

Ep 141: (GH) The Most Important Thing About Us: Our Hidden Ideas About God

Dr. Tim comes loaded with rich and probing questions about our ideas of God in this Greenhouse episode of the Soil & Roots podcast (expanding on Episode 140).

If what the world needs most is deep people, and those people are generally formed through suffering, how do we reconcile that with our desire to experience safety?

Since the Soil & Roots journey tends to approach discipleship anthropologically, does that align with the Bible and sound theology? ย Can we understand spiritual formation through sources apart from the Bible?
