Ep 97: Soul Care (GH)

What is the relationship between spiritual formation and soul care? In this Greenhouse episode, Brian, Handsome Kyle, and Doc continue the conversation from Episode 96 with Adam Ormord. They reflect on Adam’s definition of Christian spiritual formation as a lifelong process of experiencing God’s love and being formed into the image of Christ for the sake of the world. The conversation explores why discipleship cannot be reduced to short-term programs, intellectual agreement, or religious performance. Becoming more like Jesus requires participation with the Holy Spirit, but it also requires receiving love, living in trusted community, paying attention to the whole person, and allowing God to reinterpret our stories. Brian, Handsome Kyle, and Doc also discuss soul care as the practice of asking deeper questions: How is your soul? Where are you connected or disconnected? Are you living from control or connection? The episode explores why story, Scripture, community, silence, and relational safety are all essential to deep discipleship.

Spiritual Formation and Soul Care

Episode 97 finds the guys back in the Greenhouse to dig into Brian’s interview with Adam Ormord (Episode 96) regarding spiritual formation and “soul care.”

What is a helpful definition of spiritual formation?  And what does it mean that we are being formed more like Jesus for the “sake of the world?”

How might our expectations of God be off-center, and how does that affect our daily lives and the care of our souls?

Lastly, Adam mentioned that some of us function from the idea that the trinity is the Father, Son, and Bible.  What did he mean by that??

This episode continues the discussion from Ep 96.

Is God Partial? Spiritual First Class and the Love of God | Ep 146

What if you believe God loves everyone equally, but somewhere deep in your heart, you’re not so sure? In Episode 146, Brian explores the hidden idea that God is partial—that some people receive greater affection, access, or favor because they are more successful, useful, disciplined, or spiritually mature. We’ll examine how this idea surfaces through performance, suffering, comparison, spiritual celebrity, and our relationships with others—and how deep discipleship invites us to experience God’s love as a gift rather than something we earn.
