Ep 87: Inside Out (GH)

How does culture change? In this Greenhouse discussion, Brian Fisher and Dr. Tim Boswell continue the conversation from Episode 86 by exploring how cultures, systems, and institutions are shaped by the ideas and people within them. Together they discuss churches, healthcare, politics, denominations, families, and the ways systems can either honor or diminish the individual. The conversation returns to a central Soil & Roots conviction: transformation begins in the heart and moves outward. Systems are not merely faceless machines. They are formed by collective ideas, assumptions, habits, and behaviors. If those ideas are rooted in darkness, the system will eventually reflect darkness. If they are rooted in light, the system can become more humanizing, loving, and life-giving.

How Does Culture Change?

Dr. Tim Boswell is back and joins Brian in the Greenhouse to break down Episode 86, which explores the concept of both individual and social transformation happening from the inside out.

Great social reformers such as Wilberforce, Moore, King, Douglass, and Mother Teresa challenged harmful systems and the underlying ideas that drive them.

Tim and Brian discuss and debate how a deep disciple can learn from these powerful idea revolutionaries.

This episode continues the discussion from Ep 86.

Is God Partial? Spiritual First Class and the Love of God | Ep 146

What if you believe God loves everyone equally, but somewhere deep in your heart, you’re not so sure? In Episode 146, Brian explores the hidden idea that God is partial—that some people receive greater affection, access, or favor because they are more successful, useful, disciplined, or spiritually mature. We’ll examine how this idea surfaces through performance, suffering, comparison, spiritual celebrity, and our relationships with others—and how deep discipleship invites us to experience God’s love as a gift rather than something we earn.
